Important Information – Please Read Before Completing the Referral Form

We Accept Referrals for:

  • Children (3 years plus) and adults
  • Living in North Wales
  • Who have experienced any kind of sexual abuse or violence either recently or in the past.
  • Partners and family members of those who have been affected by sexual abuse and violence.

We Cannot Accept Referrals for Individuals Who:

  • Do not meet the eligibility criteria above
  • Are currently in an abusive relationship (If that’s the case, a referral to Domestic Abuse services is likely to be more suitable.)
  • Are currently experiencing a mental health crisis
  • Are actively suicidal or have attempted suicide within the last 3 months
  • Are currently an inpatient under Primary Care Mental Health services
  • Have had multiple admissions or discharges from psychiatric hospitals in the past 6 months
  • Are currently dependent on drugs or alcohol
    • We may consider referrals if the person has been in recovery for at least 6 months, or is actively engaged with a recognised drug/alcohol support service
  • Are not primarily seeking support for sexual violence (e.g. those currently struggling with bereavement or terminal illness, other types of traumas)
  • Are under investigation for, or convicted of, rape or sexual assault.
  • Are impacted by someone they know who has perpetrated sexual abuse, where they themselves have not been a victim
  • Are already accessing therapy with another organisation
  • Have completed counselling with us within the last 6 months. A 6-month waiting period is required before re-referral.

We recognise that many of the factors listed above are common responses to trauma. These criteria are not about excluding survivors; they are in place to ensure that individuals are emotionally safe and sufficiently stable to engage in trauma focused therapy. When someone is in crisis, actively suicidal, or experiencing significant instability, trauma therapy can unintentionally increase risk or overwhelm existing coping capacity.

Our aim is always to ensure that survivors receive the right support at the right time, and in some circumstances, this may mean accessing a more appropriate service first, before beginning therapeutic work with us.

You can complete a referral for yourself or professionals can make a referral on behalf of a survivor.

When we receive your referral, we will get in touch to gather some further information within 3 working days.

Once we have all the information we need, you will need to complete and Initial assessment. This meeting will usually last about an hour and we will offer you an appointment within a few weeks.

The initial assessment will be undertaken by a trauma informed specialist worker and they will help you to determine which service is appropriate to you at this time. We offer a range of services including counselling, advocacy, group work and webinars and you will be informed of these if our service is suitable for you.

After your initial assessment, if the service is appropriate for you, you will be placed on our waiting list and we will endeavour to offer an appointment that fits in with your availability and specific requirements.  For counselling we aim to provide a counsellor in the gender of your choice, preferred method in-person or remote (phone/virtual) counselling in the area of choice and the language of choice.
